Central Fresno Yards Need EXTREME Makeover

The Extreme Makeover team stampeded into Fresno to help one lucky family and left their mark ---in more ways than one! Close to one dozen nearby lawns were damaged by building crews, production cameras and spectators. But neighbors say it was worth sacrificing their lawns. The hysteria surrounding the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition build is still alive. Neighbors tell me so many cars pass by the new house day and night it is like Christmas Tree Lane. However, the traffic here doesn't compare to the thousands of spectators that trampled across these yards.

Aerial photographs show just how many people visited central Fresno when Extreme Makeover: Home Edition came to rebuild the Riojas house. Thousands! And they all left behind footprints in surrounding neighbor's yards.

"Before it started I had green green grass and then it became a mud hole," exclaimed Dale Zanovich.

Now that the build is complete Zanovich and 10 of his neighbor's lawns are being re-landscaped.

This team is edging, plowing and fertilizing the lawn. They are also fixing broken sprinkler heads like this one in dean Pugh's yard.

"There's a lot of heads missing so it's just the water running out," said Pugh.

Deborah Saffell is working with residents to make sure all the lawns are returned to their original condition.

"The lawns aren't as bad as i expected with as many spectators that stood there all day long," said Saffell.

Neighbors said they are not upset by this small inconvenience especially when they get to look at the work this landscaping crew did across the street for the new Riojas house.

"If this is all I have to give up for her to have a nice home more than happy to do it," said Pugh.

"I mean I'd like to have one like she's got over there but I guess it's too much to ask for," laughed Zanovich.

One of the big project donors paid to have this landscape team fix up these lawns. They will be here till the end of the week. And with a little TLC afterwards by homeowners ... these lawns should be back to normal by Spring.
