Teenager May Not Have To Face Murder Charges

January 30, 2009 12:00:00 AM PST
A South Valley teenager charged with murdering his mother may not go to trial.19-year old Miguel Ruiz is accused of stabbing his mother to death two years ago after she told him he couldn't date a 12-year old neighbor.

Last month, a jury found Ruiz competent to stand trial but a judge overturned that decision yesterday.

A hearing is planned for next month to send him to a mental health facility for treatment. The District Attorney's office said it plans to file an appeal.
