FRESNO, Calif.

State officials are taking measures to get rid of the pest. The Asian Fruit Fly is attracted to over 230 different fruits and vegetables. The female fly lays eggs inside the fruit, ruining it for harvest.

Several African American Farmers are harvesting their first crops on a demonstration farm in Fresno.

The 15-acre farm was planted this year by The African American Farmers Of California. The group hopes to get children want interested in agriculture.

African Americans make up just one percent of all farmers, and ranchers in the nation.

People in the northeast may face high pumpkin prices this Halloween.

Farmers say Hurricane Irene destroyed hundreds of pumpkin patches across the region. Wholesale prices have doubled in some areas.

The northeast shortage has turned out to be a boon for growers here in California as well as in other parts of the country.
