Jan. 13 AM Live Ag Report

FRESNO, Calif.

The US Agriculture Department reports the dry winter continues to deteriorate the quality of ranchland available for cattle grazing, so ranchers are forced to purchase supplemental feed for their herds.

It isn't just grass that ranchers need rain for - they also need help to replenish water sources their cattle, sheep and goats drink from.

It seems a growing number of people are interested in life on the farm and a new category of vacations is emerging. It's called Agritourism.

According to the University of Mississippi, more people are looking for rural vacations that allow them to hike, fish and ride horses.

Agritourism is seen as an opportunity for farmers to expand their businesses by inviting people to visit their farms.
