New Details in an Officer Involved Shooting

KFSN Fresno police say two women and a man were with the suspect Tuesday, when law enforcement officers approached him in this parking lot.

Police say the two women disappeared after walking into this ROSS dress for less.

But they're hoping someone will recognize them from images caught on the store's surveillance cameras.

Fresno police are looking for two women seen entering this ROSS store Tuesday afternoon.

As a struggle with a DMV investigator and CHP officer played out in the store's parking lot.

Police say the two officers approached a vehicle after spotting its driver, 34 year old Gilbert Jimenez, a wanted parolee.

But while the DMV investigator tried to detain the man in the passenger seat, on the other side of the car, police say Jimenez pulled out a knife.

Chief Jerry Dyer, Fresno Police Department: "The suspect who was partially seated in the van continued to swing the knife towards the CHP investigator. It was believed at that time that the suspect was not only attempting to stab the CHP investigator but also trying to back his vehicle up and perhaps run over the CHP investigator."

Police say at that point, the DMV investigator let the passenger order to help his partner.

"The DMV investigator upon fearing for the CHP's investigator's life fired three rounds from his firearm at the suspect, striking him all three times."

Despite his injuries, Jimenez drove away but crashed three miles away, in Central Fresno...just after he was spotted by another CHP officer.

Police say the keys to the van he was driving were taken from his girlfriend by force just 30 minutes before the attack on the officers began.

Now, they're hoping someone will recognize these two women and lead them to the man who got away from officers.

The suspect is listed in fair condition tonight...and police say he is expected to survive.

They say Jimenez is a gang member who has a lengthy criminal history.

He's facing a number of charges including attempted murder of a police officer.
