Families at the meeting say their first priority is keeping their children safe. "It scares me. My daughter likes to come down here. And I do see a lot of kids down here, and I wonder why they're not at school," said Fresno resident Michael Chavez.
Police said neighborhood councils can help residents come together to keep crime down. A similar meeting will be held Tuesday in southwest Fresno, another area plagued by violence recently.
