Neighbors say Wong took her dog for a walk every morning and often babysat her grandkids. Both Wong's family and the drivers' have lived in the neighborhood for more than 30 years. Neighbors describe the driver as traumatized by the accident. "She was crying, not understanding why we could be so understanding. She was like, 'I don't understand why they are caring about me. Why are they caring about me?'"
At this point, police are calling Wong's death a tragic accident. "There was no malice. Right now, there's no indicator of fault. It's a tragedy," said police spokesperson Janet Stoll-Lee.
Wong's dog, a Doberman pinscher, was seriously injured in the crash and is being treated at a Fresno veterinary hospital. Clovis police say the family has asked vets to do whatever they can to save the dog, and strangers have even come forward to help pay for its care.
