Sony PlayStation Murderer Sentenced to Life

Fresno, CA The most emotional moment on Friday occurred when both the victim's mother and defendant's mother hugged during the sentencing. Brooks expressed remorse for shooting and killing Daniels.

Brooks looked at the judge while his emotional mother Renae Shephard turned to the victim's family and said, "I'm very sorry for your loss. I'm very sorry for you. That's my baby boy."

A jury convicted the 21-year-old in April for murdering Daniels and attempting to kill three other students. Their dispute two years ago revolved around a Sony PlayStation 2 video game system. It ended in the deadly shooting at University Village Apartments. Brooks' mother told the judge her son is a good boy. She then walked over and gave the victim's mother an emotional embrace. The court room became silent.

The defendant spoke directly to the Daniels family. Brooks said, "I'm going to continue to pray for you guys that you guys may one day forgive me. I ask for your forgiveness and I extend my heart out to you guys."

Emotions also flowed with the Daniels family. The victim's mother Lorna Daniels directly addressed the man convicted of killing her 19-year-old son, "And for /*Jonquel Brooks*/, if I could say to him, that I love you. I see you as Brant's friend. I just pray for you too that you will find God, because Brant is in heaven with God."

Despite all the remorse, the judge said he had no other choice but to sentence Brooks to more than 100 years in prison.

The Brooks family and his legal team still believe Brooks was only defending himself against the victims. They plan to appeal the punishment and the verdict.
