"Build a Teacher" program provides school supplies

FRESNO, Calif.

Members of the "Build -A- Teacher" program through Fresno State raised $1,600 by selling Fresno Grizzlies baseball tickets over the summer.

With that money, they purchased 290 backpacks and almost any school supply you could think of that a child might need.

Club members delivered those backpacks to a West Fresno elementary school. They also talked about the importance of being prepared in the classroom.

"To help them better in their classroom, support them with their supplies so they could focus more on school and complete their homework," Build-A-Teacher President Rosa Lopez said.

Fresno state's "Build -A- Teacher" program began more than 10 years ago and is designed to develop and inspire future educators.
