A government report says nearly 800-thousand acres of orchards will produce nuts during this fall's harvest. That's a little below last year's production but still a big number.
However, this year's crop likely won't be enough to meet the demand for almonds -- which had gone up about 15 percent from last year. Growers say new plantings are going in -- but it will take a few years until those crops can be harvested.
Experts say if things stay this way, almond prices will likely go up.
