After cancelling its contract for animal control services with the city and the county, the SPCA has agreed to continue providing animal control services for the city after October first. The goal is to work out a six month extension with the city. But the on again, off again talks with the SPCA raised one big question.
Clint Olivier asked, "Why did the city seek an extension with the SPCA?"
"In recognition that we need to have time as we had originally requested to adequately design a facility and staff an operation," Assistant City Manager Bruce Rudd said. "The reason for this extension is to give us exactly what we needed or to provide a smooth transition."
Assistant City Manager Bruce Rudd says the Central California SPCA is not interested in resuming a permanent contract with the city.
Fresno County hired another company for animal control and is opening its own temporary shelter next week.
