Fresno State students celebrate commencement

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Thousands of Fresno State students are now alumni after the main commencement on Saturday morning.

More than 1,200 graduates participated in the ceremony at the Save Mart Center. This was the first year President Joseph Castro conferred degrees at the university, as well as Fresno State's inaugural class of nursing doctoral degrees.

The ceremony also took time to honor Dr. Pete Mehas, who was a lifelong educator. His wife accepted an honorary doctorate he was awarded posthumously by Fresno State.
