Large wildfire near Avocado Lake

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- Firefighters say the fire burned about 100 acres near Avocado Lake on Sunday.

Firefighters say the fire burned about 100 acres near Avocado Lake, and they're still monitoring hot spots tonight.

The flames climbed a hill quickly and threatened one home before firefighters stopped the progress. They say the conditions were tough as they tried to get control.

"The wind is pushing the fire. We have steep terrain that's making it tough for the dozers and the engines to get in on top of the fire and make a good footing," said Jim Fitzgerald/Cal Fire Battalion Chief.

Cal Fire is responding to a large fire burning near Avocado Lake.

Firefighters had a full aerial attack on the fire, using water they pulled from the lake. The fire is now 75-percent contained.

They say it sparked when some power lines fell in the dry grass, but they're not sure why the lines fell.

A second fire popped up at about the same time about 14 miles away Avocado Lake near Hobbs Grove. That fire burned about three acres before firefighters got it under control. There is no word on the cause.
