Free emissions tests to be offered in Merced

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Merced-area drivers who need an emissions test may be able to get a free one this weekend. The San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District is offering the service as part of an event on Saturday.

Drivers need to have owned a car for more than six months to qualify, and vehicles must be registered in California. Owners of cars that do not pass the test but can be repaired will receive a $500 voucher for work at a participating STAR smog shop.

The testing takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Merced Fairgrounds in the 11th Street parking lot.
