FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Fresno pilot is living a double life as a triathlete. Chris Montross began his adventure in the sport three years ago and he's already proven his ability to dominate. But, it takes a lot of work for this amazing athlete to prepare for each of his races.

Running is just one of the training components for Chris Montross, who's months away from his fourth Ironman Triathlon. The 55-year-old qualified for the competition's championship race, when he placed first in his age division at Ironman Texas this past March.

Montross added, "I had never thought about the possibility of qualifying for the Ironman world championship."

It takes a lot to train for an Ironman race. Competitors start with a 2.4 mile swim, bike for 112 miles, and finish off the race with a full marathon. That's 26.2 miles!

In his three year career as a triathlete, he's already competed in several triathlons: and has all the hardware to prove it.

As a pilot, Montross spends half of the week traveling, but that doesn't change the way he trains. In fact, he does most of his running and swimming while on the road. That leaves cycling for when he's back home. At the peak of his training: he will ride about 220 miles a week.

At the end of the month, he's taking part a grueling cycling event here in the Central Valley. Climb to Kaiser is a 155 mile bike ride that features 10,000 feet of climbing. And completing that, is just part of training for what's ahead this fall.

Montross said, "I would like to do another Sub-10 Ironman in the Kona at the world championship in October."

A goal that should be easily attainable by this local Ironman.
