FRESNO, Calif. -- Hotels along the Grapevine and in the desert east of Bakersfield are getting ready for the possibility of stranded travelers Thursday morning.
When snow storms hit, or mudslides close down Interstate 5 on the Grapevine or Highway 58 near Tehachapi, the hotels in the area are usually sold out. Some hotel workers say they're ready for El Niño storms and they're now fully trained on how to deal with a potential flood of guests.
"Our staff is very prepared to take in any amount of walk ins, also reservations. My personal experience, I've checked in my most at 60 people in a day. so we're more than capable of taking in a large amount of people," said Abagail Murray.
The hotels are hoping the weather does keep up because right after the holidays is one of their slowest times of year.
