FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Traffic is flowing again in both directions on Highway 99 after construction crews hit a water main, flooding the roadway at the Ashlan Avenue exit.

Crews were out all morning working to clean up the mess caused from the flooding. The water started flowing around 10 p.m. on Monday when an excavator hit an unmarked line.

Some big rigs were able to pass through with just a little resistance. But other drivers weren't as lucky, getting stuck in the water, and having to get out and push their cars free.

The CHP closed that portion of the highway around midnight -- and both lanes reopened by 5 a.m. on Tuesday.

CHP said a water line broke after a construction contractor hit the pipe.
The Freeway was reopened early Tuesday morning after flooding closed the road overnight.
