FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A man is recovering after nearly drowning in the San Joaquin River in Northwest Fresno. Authorities used the Fresno County sheriff's helicopter, Eagle 1, to find the victim after he fell into the water Sunday afternoon at Spano Park near Palm and Nees avenues.

Authorities say the man called 911 while he was clinging to some debris in the river. Fresno police officers and sheriff's deputies worked together to get the man out of the water then up a huge hill to where paramedics were waiting. They say the man was conscious and breathing on his own and will make a full recovery.
