Avenal man accused of having a sexual relationship with a 12-year-old girl
A 35-year-old man from Avenal is under arrest. Omar Cabrera is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 12-year-old girl.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A South Valley business owner is facing serious criminal charges. Lemoore police say Omar Cabrera, 35, gave a 12-year-old girl alcohol and molested her.

Investigators say Cabrera owns a business and lives in Avenal. He was arrested in Hanford, where he is being held in the Kings County Jail.

Lemoore police say there are at least three identified instances of a crime reported to them first by the girl's family. "She identified Lemoore as one of the places, so they immediately came to us and notified us," said LPD Detective Sergeant Mathew Gonsalvez.

Police found out about the case last Thursday and began investigating immediately. "We conducted a forensic interview with the minor with the assistance of the DA's office," Gonsalvez said. "That gave us more information, more probable cause."

Detectives caught up to Cabrera in Hanford Tuesday where he was arrested after being pulled over. Police say he's often in Hanford visiting family or getting supplies for his business.

Online records show he's owned Smart Tint in Avenal for several years. Lemoore police say at least twice Cabrera got the girl drunk before attacking her. One incident happened at an undisclosed home in Lemoore. The other two happened outside the city limits.

"We are still looking to see if there are other victims out there," Gonsalvez said.

Cabrera and the victim are not strangers, according to police. Their exact relationship isn't being made public to protect the case and the girl's identity.

"Obviously she's going through some emotional impact over this," Sgt. Gonsalvez said. "We did set her up with counseling, so hopefully she can transition through this and become a healthy young woman."

Cabrera did not give a statement to police when he was arrested. A forensics team is searching the girl's cell phone for evidence.
