SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fresno firefighters traveled to Santa Barbara on Friday to attend the memorial service for one of their former coworkers, Daniel Corrigan.

His captain in Fresno, Karey Wedemeyer, described Corrigan's first few days working for the department. The 35-year-old moved from Fresno to Santa Barbara in 2013. During the ceremony, coworkers described Corrigan's unique mechanical skills, humorous personality and role as a dad.

Santa Barbara City Fire Chief Pat McElroy said, "This was a brilliant young man. He was the type of guy like me. When I am getting to the end of my career and you start looking around at who is going to be here, and seeing a guy like Dan Corrigan around made you feel good about the future."

Corrigan died earlier this month from an unknown medical emergency. He is survived by his pregnant fiancee and their 1-1/2-year-old son.
