Some Valley families choose to stay in town for Labor Day weekend
This holiday weekend is one of the busiest travel times of the year but some people are choosing to stay close to home.

MILLERTON LAKE, Calif. (KFSN) -- This holiday weekend is one of the busiest travel times of the year, but some people are choosing to stay close to home.

It seems like those who stay in town for Labor Day weekend head to the nearest watering hole to have fun, and that's no exception at Millerton Lake.

"Tomorrow we still have rentals available. Yesterday and today we were sold out," said Millerton Lake Rentals owner Larry Calandra.

Even with a fleet of 30 Jet Skis and 10 boats, the folks at Millerton Lake Rentals had to turn people away by noon Sunday. The high demand is welcome by the staff there during their last big push of the summer.

"Kids are going to go back to school or they're already back in school, but it's the last three-day weekend," said Millerton Lake Supervising Ranger Mark De Leon.

With extra patrols and lifeguards on duty, there haven't been any accidents or drownings at this state park.

At Wild Water Adventure Park in Clovis, a similar bulking up for their staff.

"We've had to add four more parking attendants, and I've got a ton of people in the parking lot trying to get people parked as fast as possible," said Wild Water Adventure Park General Manager Bob Martin.

Both places expect a slower day on Monday as people get ready to head back to reality.
