ONTARIO, Calif. -- Officers investigating a strange odor coming from a Southern California motel room found a rotting body inside.
Ontario police officials said officers went to a room at the Mission Motel on Sunday and received permission from a man to look inside. There, they saw the body of a man that appears to have been in a state of decomposition for several days.
The man's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
KCBS-TV reports the man who answered the door, Alfred Guerrero, had been staying at the motel for more than two years.
Police said Guerrero is considered a person of interest in the ongoing investigation. He was questioned and released.
