FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Pokemon GO is doing more than just providing new entertainment. It's creating a new way for businesses to reel in more customers.
"I think I saw an advertisement for Red Robin the other day that was like show us your Pokemon at the door and get 10-percent off your next meal," said Travis Smith, Fresno.
That's exactly what Cindy's Frozen Yogurt is doing.
It's one of the several businesses in the Tower District listed as a designated hot spot for Pokemon. The manager said they put a sign out a day ago that said "Pokemon Trainers show us you stopped at keepsake PokeStop and get 10-percent off" to capitalize on those out trying to catch them.
"It's been really well, yesterday we had at least 15 people just use the promotion," said Jazmin Padilla, Cindy's Frozen Yogurt and Desserts.
Across town, Piazza Del Pane is doing the same thing. Nathan Martin said they're giving Pokemon GO players who stop in to eat half off on Italian ice cream. Also, 10-percent off to folks just wanting to order to-go and continue playing.
"We have noticed an increase in traffic, so it's definitely good."
Not every business is thrilled about the chase for Pokemon. The owner over at Meze House Mediterranean grill said it has been a distraction for one of his workers.
"I issued a warning because he keeps using that app during his working hours, and I said, he keeps using it I'll be regretfully firing you," said Hossam Alzoubi, Meze House Mediterranean Grill.
Thursday night there is going to be a pub crawl for Pokemon GO players in the Tower District. It starts at 8:00 p.m. and you have to be at least 21-years-old to go.
The organizers said they will be giving away free poke prizes.
