FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fresno County supervisor Henry Perea is speaking about his decision to run for mayor of Fresno.
Perea is currently serving his third term as supervisor. He also served on the Fresno City Council and the Fresno County Board of Education and as a reserve police officer. His son, former Fresno assemblyman Henry T. Perea ran for mayor in 2008 but lost the election to Ashley Swearengin.
Perea says he has the background and experience to make help the city increase public safety staffing levels, be a leader for valley water issues and support projects that will help the local economy. "My commitment is to have a team of people that every day when they wake up they're going to be bringing jobs and different industries to Fresno and Fresno County," Perea said. "But as importantly, we're going to help small business grow because that's the backbone of any community."
Perea is the third person to declare his candidacy.
Current council member Lee Brand and pastor and community activist H Spees are also running.
