Turn clothes into cash with Tradesy
Need some extra cash this holiday season? That cash could be sitting in your closet.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Tradesy takes the consignment concept and makes it hassle free. We spoke with a Fresno woman who says she never even has to leave her house to make money.

"This is the one with the tags so I'm gonna take that one..." Joy Pickering, a Fresno mom, is cleaning out her closet. As she sorts through hangers and opens shoeboxes, she comments, "This one was worn once to a wedding. It's just stuff I haven't worn and I'm not gonna wear so I don't like it cluttering up my closet."

But she's going to turn that clutter into cash. Joy sells her stuff using an app and website called Tradesy. She takes a few photos of the item with her camera or smartphone, then uploads to Tradesy with a description. And Tradesy pretty much does the rest, including suggesting a selling price and taking the pain out of shipping.

"When someone buys something that you're selling, we send you a prepaid and pre-addressed shipping kit, so you don't even need to leave the house to ship," explains Tradesy Founder and CEO, Tracy Dinunzio. She says Tradesy authenticates every designer item, "And we offer 100 percent money back guarantee that it's all authentic designer fashion."

Joy says it couldn't be easier: "As soon as I put it into the mailbox and the post office scans it in, I get my money." How much does Joy get? Tradesy takes a 9 percent commission on the items that are sold. But Joy says it's worth the convenience not having to go through consignment stores, "It's just so much work I mean having to take time out to put everything in the car, then take it over there and have them look over everything to decide whether they want it or if they don't, which I've done that before."

And she says every little bit of extra cash helps, especially during the holidays. "If I sell something on Tradesy like I did last week, then I kind of give myself permission to buy myself a little something." That's if her daughter doesn't snag it first.
