Good Sports - Josh Herrin

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- There are many great athletes in our Central Valley, including a Clovis resident who doesn't mind living life in the fast lane.

To say Josh Herrin has been riding motorcycles his whole life wouldn't be a stretch.

"My dad used to race actually," he said. "So, I started going to the track when I was a baby, started racing when I was 6."

Herrin, who lives in Clovis, turned pro at 16 and has been leaving his competition in the dust ever since.

"I've been racing, it was AMA Pro Super Bikes since I was 16 years old," Herrin said. "I was the youngest rider to ever get on the podium, youngest rider to win a race, second youngest to ever win the Daytona 200 at 19, now I'm 26 and been doing it for 10 years."

The experience has paid off in the form of titles Herrin just wrapped up his 2nd title at Laguna Seca in July.

"After the first championship he won, it was probably more emotional for the both of us," Herrin's fiance Teesha Kitterman said. "I sit there and watch him work all day, every day towards this all you can do is be proud."

"We just won enough races to where we kind of clinched it early and it's impossible for the guys to catch up in the last two rounds," Herrin said. "So, we won by so many points it's not possible for them to win in the last round."

It's not just about titles, Herrin hopes to grow the sport right here in the Central Valley.

"What I'm trying to do is to get kids from here into the sport is I'm getting mini bikes here," he said. "I'm renting bikes out I'm trying to get kids to tracks the closest one we have is Bakersfield so that how I'm trying to give back, get people out to a track, give them a bike to ride and show them how it's done."

What better way to learn than from a two-time champion who doesn't plan on slowing down anytime soon.
