FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A man has died after getting hit by a truck near Reedley on Saturday. It happened at Alta and Adams avenues just before 7 p.m.

The victim has only been identified as a man who appeared to be about 40 years old. The California Highway Patrol says he was running across the dark road, wearing black clothing with a camouflage jacket, when he was hit by the pickup truck.

A sergeant at the scene told Action News the driver was going between 30 and 45 miles per hour, and could not have seen the man in time to avoid the crash.

"They stopped and they stayed here. They stopped and got out and went back and tried to help, but there was nothing really they could do. It's pitch black," said CHP Sgt. Ed Jacobs.

The victim was taken to a hospital in Reedley, where he was pronounced dead. There's no word yet on why he was running across the road.
