Tulare County Sheriff's Office clerk arrested for data fraud

TULARE, Calif. (KFSN) -- Investigators with the Tulare County Sheriff's Office say Esmeralda Robles used her position as a records clerk with the department to access computer data regarding her daughter's fiance, 20-year-old Abraham Arroyo.

In September, San Mateo County Sheriff's detectives arrested Arroyo in Ivanhoe.

He's the second suspect in the shooting death of a 21-year-old in Half Moon Bay and is being held without bail at Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City.

It's unclear which records Robles allegedly accessed related to her daughter's fiancé and how that was used to try and help him. But the Tulare County Sheriff's Office says they acted immediately when they learned what she was up to.

An investigation into her activity began on September 11th, just days after Arroyo's arrest.

The Tulare County Sheriff's Office issued this statement to Action News:

"Sheriff Mike Boudreaux has high standards for his employees and her arrest is a disappointment. While he regrets what Robles's is accused of doing, he doesn't tolerate criminal activity. Sheriff's office employees and volunteers go through an extensive background check prior to hiring."

Robles has worked for the department since 2004 and posted bail Thursday.

When we knocked on the door of her home in Ivanhoe, someone answered, but said she wasn't home.

Neighbors we spoke with off camera say Robles is nice and quiet, but one neighbor says police frequent her house.

That neighbor also says Arroyo was arrested at the home in September.
