FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Visalia Unified School district has named a new superintendent.
Dr. Todd Oto has been serving as interim superintendent since January of this year, and his official term as superintendent will start in June.
Oto brings 29 years of education experience, all with VUSD.
He's been a high school teacher and principal, as well as an Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services.
He says it's the greatest possible honor and humbling to be able to lead the district, and he says he has a mission to develop a culture that does two things.
"First off, a strong focus on kids. We do that well, but we want to have them achieve well and support them," Oto explained. "And the second thing is a culture that develops talent at all levels, teachers support staff, and even with kids. We want to make sure that everybody here receives what they need and support to grow and develop in a great way."
This August, the district will open its new middle school, Ridgeview.
A principal has been hired and 350 kids will attend the school.
