Wildfires impacting tourism at some of California's favorite getaways
Fires raging across the Central Valley this summer are affecting landowners and travelers alike.

OAKHURST, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fires raging across the Central Valley this summer are affecting landowners and travelers alike.

Theresa Greenwood's plans to climb Half Dome, were stunted by the Meadow Fire in Yosemite.

"Now we're taking advantage of all the other, there's 800 different trails in this park so there's lots to see. We're going to put that on our to do list in the future and take part in other trails," said Greenwood.

The meadow fire is one of three major fires in this area in just three months, during the busiest time of year for the park.

At Yosemite National Park a lot of tourists coming through despite the season winding down but just down the road in Oakhurst a different kind of traveler is bringing in business.

Cancellations at the Best Western Inn due to fires, have immediately been filled by first responders.

"Well this is the end of our season but we're still busy," said Best Western Plus General Manager Bill Putnam.

Just Monday night, they housed nearly 30 firefighters. But the visitor's bureau remains optimistic for the remainder of the tourist season.

"People are here. They may reroute their trip a little bit. They're still coming," said Yosemite Sierra Visitors Bureau CEO Rhonda Salisbury.

Especially since many of them have scheduled their vacations months in advance.
