A second case of tuberculosis at Madera South High School has been confirmed. The County Health Department made the announcement Thursday afternoon.

Tuberculosis attacks the lungs and is contagious. Dozens of students have been tested for the disease after one student tested positive last week.

Doctor Thomas Cole with the Health Department said more cases could be confirmed soon. "It doesn't surprise me that we got one more case and there may be more. We are testing people and putting them on preventative treatment, and once they start taking these pills the ones who may have been infected from developing the disease."

The Madera School District says some other students had abnormal test results, but it doesn't mean they have TB, so they are not being kept from attending classes.
