North Carolina is Fresno State's next CWS opponent

6/21/2008 Omaha, Nebraska At first, it looked like Friday night's matchup between LSU and North Carolina might not happen for the second night in a row. Lightning led to a weather delay in the third inning. But the game resumed about an hour and a half later.

The game was tied 3-3 until the top of the ninth. That's when Carolina's Tim Federowicz came up to the plate with the bases loaded. He took this pitch deep for a grand slam home run that proved to be the game winner.

The Tar Heels beat LSU 7-3. The Tigers are eliminated from the College World Series.

The Tar Heels coach says his team is thrilled still be alive. Mike Fox, North Carolina head coach, says "My team has got a lot of heart we just hung in there. We didn't do a lot of things right, but we finally hit a mistake."

"I mean it's a great feeling getting up there bases loaded in the college world series with a chance to get us ahead going into the bottom of the ninth," says Federowicz.

Fresno State needs to beat North Carolina one more time to advance to the championship series final.
