Get Ready to Rumble

Organizers for this weekend's Rumble in the Park are expecting a big turnout. While giving valley fans a unique and up close look at the nation's fastest growing sport."We're definitely expecting a capacity crowd," said fight promoter Rick Mirigian.

This Saturday Woodward Park's normally peaceful amphitheatre will get a little rowdy. And that's a good thing. When some of the biggest names in mixed martial arts take over, in what is being called the Rumble in the Park. A ten bout event featuring fighters from all over the world.

"You're going to get that feel of a big time fight like one you'd see in Las Vegas. This will be something of quality and that was the goal," said Mirigian.

Mirigian says 8-months ago is when he started working to bring this world class event to our valley. "We'll have HBO's Al Berstein doing commentary. This event will be broadcast to a million viewers, it's big. Even Chuck Liddell is endorsing this fight."

Chuck Liddell or the Iceman as he's known to his fans around the world will be there signing free autographs "Chuck is a world icon. He's the biggest name out there," Mirigian says. "Chuck's in movies and on TV and on the cover of magazines. He'll be there hanging out with the people of Fresno."

The Fresno City Council is on board to bring this money maker here. But the event has met resistance from some nearby residents. Neighbors that say cage fighting, especially in an outdoor venue like the one scheduled this Saturday is too just violent.

"We've worked really close with the state and city officials for this fight. There will be medical staffs there for the fighters and plenty of security for the fans. This is a legitimate fighting card. People aren't going to see two bartenders going it at it; this will be world class athletes in the octagon who know what they're doing. And the public needs to understand that." says Mirigian.
