Sausage Assault-Robbery Suspect Released

September 11, 2008 12:10:28 AM PDT
The valley man accused in a bizarre robbery involving a sausage has been released from jail due to a lack of evidence. On Saturday, Fresno County Sheriff's Deputies responded to this home near Thompson and Kings Canyon.

The residents said they were robbed by a man who blinded one of them with kitchen spices, and beat the other with a large sausage. Investigators say the sausage was eaten by the family dog.

Officers arrested 21-year old Antonio Vasquez Junior after finding him in an orchard nearby.

Vasquez was released Wednesday after prosecutors announced they didn't have enough evidence to press charges.

The case has been returned to the sheriff's department for further investigation.
