Fresno Weekend Gun Battles

Fresno, CA, USA In all, five people got shot, and one died in a gun battle that ended after a Fresno County Sheriff's Deputy got involved.

The first shooting happened just before 4 a.m. on Sunday morning in front of a home at Weldon and Cedar.

The second happened late Saturday afternoon at Jensen and Walnut.

Both shootings left people seriously injured.

Saturday evening two teenagers were sitting outside an apartment building when someone drove up and fired several gun shots at them.

The bullets ripped into the two teenagers, a 15 and 17-year old. They were strapped down to stretchers and sent to Community Regional Medical Center.

Fresno Police admit they have very little to go on but by the number of bullet casings on the street it looks like a drive by.

18-year old Frank Lopez heard the shots fired and said that's just life in southwest Fresno. "Scared. But you have to be tough. It's the real world you got to learn how it is."

Investigators are having trouble finding witnesses but believe the shooters were in a green car. "We're in the beginning stages of this investigation we don't know what the motive is, if it's gang related. So we're still trying to determine all those factors," said Herman Silva with the Fresno Police Department.

Neighbors here weren't the only ones rattled by gun-fire. Shots filled the morning air in this central Fresno county island.

"Shortly after the first call came in several other calls came in about shots being fire in the area," said Deputy Chris Curtice with the Fresno County Sheriff's Office.

Shortly after the first call came in several other calls came in about shots being fire in the area.

Deputy Chris Curtice said around 4:00am Sunday, a deputy was forced to defend himself against a man with a gun in this neighborhood. Once backup arrived they found two more shooting victims including one who died.

Evidence markers and crime tape show how spread out these shootings were. Witnesses are describing it as a gunfight.

Investigators are questioning a man who was in the area at the time of the shootings. Apparently the victims have no connection to the homes in the area.

The two men shot in Fresno County were taken to Community Regional Medical Center after the shooting. They are in serious but stable condition.

As for the two teens, they're listed in serious condition at Community Regional Medical Center.
