Fresno City College Students Protest Budget Cuts

Fresno, CA, USA 200 students from Fresno City College boarded buses just after 5am Monday morning. The students headed to Sacramento carrying signs and wearing red shirts to participate in the "March in March." They want legislators to rescue education from future budget cuts in the next fiscal year.

They are joining students from all 110 California community colleges as well as U.C. and Cal. State campuses. Student organizers said their message has strength in numbers.

"We're actually trying to get the word out, stop slashing the funds for community colleges. It really has an impact on Fresno and the community so hopefully we can get the word out and have a good time at the same time," said student organizer Thomas Quiroz.

"Some of the classes probably have to be cut, teachers laid off so we want to tell them it shouldn't happen in the future," said Student Organizer Sandeep Meen.

College educators and staff are joining the students in their protest which wraps up with a noon rally on the steps of the capitol.
