Deadly Madera County Accident

C.H.P. investigators believe talking on the cell phone may be to blame for a head on crash on Highway 145 this morning that killed one person. The Highway Patrol said around 3:30 a.m. the driver of a Honda collided with a big rig on HWY145 between Madera and Kerman.

The big rig caught fire. Its driver had minor injuries.

Officers said the driver of the Honda, 23-year-old Fernando Berdejo was not wearing his seat belt and was killed instantly.

Investigators believe Berdejo was talking on his cell phone at the time of the crash.
