Fresno State ranks in the top 25% for CSU graduation rates. Dr. Bill Covino, at Fresno State said they want to improve that rate by 6% by 2016.

The new initiative will make it mandatory for first year students to see an academic advisor, rebuild the faculty-student mentor program and students on academic probation will be required to attend an academic success course.

On campus some students said getting help with graduation is a good idea. But some said a new initiative is not the kind of help most students need.

Psychology Professor Mike Botwin said because of cuts CSU faculty faces the difficult task of graduating students on time and providing a quality education.

Students said they would rather have help in continuing to afford their education when limited courses force them to pay for extra semesters.
