Creek backup comes close to flooding homes

FRESNO, Calif. Water got close to several homes in the community of Seville, just northeast of Visalia.

Firefighters worked to clear debris from grates along the Sontag Creek Saturday morning as residents used water pumps to get water out from underneath their homes.

"We're tracing it where it flows to and where the backup, where we're plugged up at, if we can figure out where we're plugged up, then we can clean it out, or hopefully get some help cleaning it out and let some of the water flow like it should," said Jeff Newton, Tulare County Batallion Chief.

Tulare County Firefighters say the water didn't actually make it into any homes, but it got close.

That's why they closely monitored weather reports, as they continued cleanup efforts.
