Central Unified Prepares for Civil Court Hearing

FRESNO, Calif. Central Unified school administrators met for several hours last night to discuss the next step in a legal battle over the student's suspension.

The five seniors were kicked out of Central East High School for chopping down two trees last month. They were forced to attend a continuation school.

The students got a court order that says they should first be allowed a hearing.

The school hasn't allowed them back in.

"The Board of Education is given direction dependent on the outcome of tomorrow's legal proceedings to pursue all legal remedies with the court of appeals. Also, it is important to note that in addition, the district is still offering to resolve the issue without preconditions to enter mediation," said Central Unified Superintendent Michael Berg.

The civil court hearing is Thursday afternoon at three o'clock. The superintendent told Action News off camera that he would like to avoid a court battle and encourage the parents of the five students to work on an agreement with the school.
