The five-million dollar dream of Granite Park has now given way to patchy dirt, knee high weeds and a facility thats fallen victim to theft and vandalism.
On Wednesday the city began to clean up what some say has become eye sore by removing trash and debris.
After moving his law firm to Granite Park in February attorney Philip Flanigan wrote a letter to city leaders asking for crews to clean up the dilapidated area for the sake of his clients.
"If people are driving up and it's unsightly it's going to affect our business a little bit," said Flanigan.
Assistant City Manager Bruce Rudd says Granite Park was already in disrepair when the city acquired the property last year.
Starting Thursday city crews will begin cutting down weeds, and removing dozens of dead trees.
Rudd says it will take nearly a million dollars to fully restore the development, but the city can only afford the cleanup which will cost 20 to 25 thousand dollars. Business owner Jason Gray says he's in it for the long run.
"The accessibility, the name recognition, good and bad press, people know where Granite Park is," said Grey.
Gray began building his physical therapy business here four-years ago and moved into the building within the past three weeks. Despite its current state, business owners believe Granite Park is still a viable area.
They hope a clean start will be a new beginning for the area.
