Truck rams Fresno Police car; officers open fire

FRESNO, Calif. The shots were fired Thursday night in Fresno County near Tarpey Village, but it all started in Southeast Fresno at Tulare and First.

Officers say they tried to pull over a red Chevy pickup for a traffic stop. The driver refused to stop and started a chase. Officer's brought in their helicopter to follow the truck. The vehicle ended up in Tarpey Village minutes later, police say they were forced to open fire on the driver.

"When the vehicle rammed one of our patrol cars -- striking it -- an officer did fire shots at the vehicle. No one was hit no one was injured," said Lt. Joyce Vasquez with the Fresno Police Department.

Following the gunfire the driver tried to get away again. He ended up at Ashlan and Siverly where he then tried to run away. Police caught him and took him into custody.
