Someone hit Patrick Hines and Captain Gary Gregory Saturday morning as he and his captain responded to a vehicle fire in Alpaugh -- in Tulare County just west of Earlimart.
Hines is said to be doing better at Community Regional Medical Center in downtown Fresno. He's suffering from cracked ribs, broken legs, and internal bleeding.
The Tulare County Board of Supervisors recently recognized Hines for 35-years of service.
Captain Gregory is already out of the Tulare District Hospital. He suffered only minor bumps and bruises.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the hit and run crash and have been unable to find the driver of the truck that hit Hines.
