The fire started at midnight Wednesday night and burned for hours at Elm near North Avenue. No one was hurt, but firefighters faced some dangerous conditions as they battled the blaze.

The tire-fueled flames burned hot and intense inside Jerry's Tire Sales. Firefighters say inside hundreds of tires were stacked all around, ten feet high.

The concrete walls stood, but the metal roof began collapsing in on them, and firefighters had to watch for any unknown hazards inside the shop.

Power lines came down --- still live -- increasing the danger.

Two dozen firefighters attacked the flames from the ground and from a ladder truck -- preventing them from spreading to this home next door and neighboring businesses surrounding it.

Firefighters saved some equipment -- including a forklift -- but Jerry's Tire Sales was destroyed. While investigators try to determine a cause, they're estimating more than $300,000 in losses.

Elm Street was shut down between North and Muscat. It has since reopened.
