The grassfire that started along Morgan Territory Road is now 50 percent contained and firefighters plan to stay on it throughout the night.
Flames continued to spread in grass and oak woodland at a moderate rate, according to Cal Fire. About 200 firefighters from Cal Fire, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, and San Ramon fire were responded.
Several structures were considered threatened by flames on Curry Canyon Road, according to Cal Fire, but no structures have burned.
Crews were concerned with a big power line and worked to save it, but PG&E had to cut the power to ensure the firefighters' safety. About 57 customers are without power.
There aren't that many homes in Curry Canyon and they are fairly spread out. Just about everyone in the canyon owns livestock and a big piece of property. Only one home was threatened by the fire and crews managed to save it.
"Terrain is what we call light fuels, a lot of grassy areas. Once we get further back up into the hills there, we're noticing a lot of brush and trees and timber. And right now the fire is involved in the timber area, that's where crews are putting in backfires in also," says Battalion Chief Jake Gonzalez.
"When you live out here, all you do is you rise to the occasion basically. So, we're all making sure that we lookout for each other and stay relaxed, but be prepared and be prepared for the worst and expect the best," says resident Craig.
Craig did not give his last name because residents in the area are very private and they like living away from it all. They have all been in close contact with firefighters, however, who are keeping them up to date.
No one has been ordered to evacuate.
When firefighters first arrived on scene earlier Tuesday afternoon, they noticed a power line was down blocking the road so PG&E had to turn off the power before they could get around it to get to the fire. They will be looking into whether that started the fire or not. They don't know what caused the fire, but it is something they will look into.
There are no reports of any firefighters injured while fighting this blaze.
