TCSO said a deputy attempted to pull over the driver of a white SUV on Highway 99, north of the Caldwell exit in Visalia. The driver of the SUV sped away from the deputy and exited onto Caldwell and drove east.
The Visalia Police Department told Action News the driver of that SUV crashed into several cars at the intersection of Caldwell and Akers. Police say three people were killed, all of them were in one car. The drivers and passengers of the other cars were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The accident happened just before 10:00 p.m. Thursday. The Visalia Police Department will handle the accident investigation.
The driver of the SUV is being checked out at the hospital and will likely be placed in police custody afterward.
The people who died in the accident have not been identified.
