LA Police helicopter shot by sniper

FRESNO, Calif.

The sniper hit the helicopter's fuel tank from his front yard. The chopper landed safely at a nearby airport, and nobody was hurt.

Authorities found the suspect after searching for several hours. After a standoff, the suspect's family took him down.

"They were family members that he was interacting with and they were making an attempt to try and get him to surrender. Eventually they saw an opportunity and they were able to subdue him and get the gun from him and officers that were nearby were able to take him into custody," said Capt. John Egan with the Los Angeles Police Department.

Family members say the man was upset over a friend who recently died. Neighbors said the suspect had fired his rifle before, but mostly at nighttime.
