Comcast hopes to change that. Officials with the cable giant announced a new program Saturday called, "Internet Essentials"
Low income families living in Comcast service areas, whose children receive free lunches under the national school lunch program are eligible.
The program will offer them Internet service for $9.95 a month.
"The aim of the program is not to have people cancel their current Internet service, and subscribe to a lower Internet service. This is for people who haven't been online and can't afford it," Bryan Byrd said.
Families who qualify will also receive a voucher they can use to buy a computer for $150.
