Visalia implementing new garbage collection rules

FRESNO, Calif.

Residents who continuously place their garbage cans too close to a basketball hoop or illegally park their cars on the street could face up to $100 dollars in fines and refusal of trash pick-up service.

Starting May 1, Visalia city officials will require residents to place trash cans on the street by 6 a.m. on designated trash pick-up day.

The city's solid waste department says the street obstructions are causing hazards for their drivers. They hope residents will learn to keep the streets clear.

Other new rules include a fee if you leave your trash can out on the street on non-collection days.
