Over the last two weeks, members have been voting on campus and online. Out of the 24,000 instructional faculty, librarians, counselors and coaches the California Faculty Association represents -- 12,501 members filled out a ballot. Of those 95-percent voted in favor of a strike.

Among the key issues is an administration demand for a salary freeze. Employees want a 1-percent raise and a guarantee of academic freedom.

So far, no date has been specified, but the CFA says the strike would take place at all 23 campuses during the fall semester.

Bargaining sessions are expected to resume later this week.
